Robin Williams
I read this morning of the untimely and tragic death of Robin Williams.
It’s hard to put the thoughts into words on reading this news about a man who inspired so many people in so many ways. Only by looking at a subject from the outside can we see, in time, a kind of truth and realisation. I’ve read a number of posts from people who are saying “yes, I can see it now, looking back he was always suffering…” yet how many people in our lives can we say that about and yet we do nothing to help them until it’s too late?
I was only watching “August Rush” the other day with my family and Robin’s electrifying performance as “The Wizard”, a driven Fagin-type character in the film. I’m struck this morning by the similarities between his character in the film and what we know of Robin himself as a man- passionate, driven, caring, yet on his flip side affected by so much darkness.
Though I never had the honour to meet him, like many I had the pleasure of a personal relationship with his work over so many years of wonderful performances. RIP my friend, thank you for everything.
